Traffic plan chaos at Harrowgate Hill School

April 9, 2008 8:00 PM

Harrowgate Hill School back road is to be a one way system.

Changes are needed to sort out the traffic problems in the back road leading to Harrowgate Hill School.

The last time the Highways Department came up with a plan, Lib Dem ward councillors insisted that local residents were consulted about it. The residents suggested some changes to the plan, but the project was postponed.

The twice-a-day traffic chaos continued, so Councillor Fred Lawton asked for something to be done.

Traffic Management then made a complete mess of letting people know what they proposed. Councillors and local residents received an incorrect letter on 18th March, telling them that there would be a one way system running east to west; from Thompson Street West to Longfield Road. They then got a corrected letter on 1st April saying the new one way system would run west-east, from Longfield Road to Thompson Street West.

The short stretch of the back road outside Longfield Road flats will be two way traffic. There are some new No Waiting areas.

Residents have been given until 21st April to comment on the plans.

Officers have apologised for yet another mistake in this badly managed project.

Any residents or parents who want to discuss this, please ring Fred Lawton or Mike Barker.

We hope that this long overdue work will be done this time.
