Lib Dem President Simon Hughes MP will be joining Greg Stone campaigning in Sedgefield tomorrow. (Monday, July 9th) Simon, the Lib Dem President will be visiting Wheatley Hill before touring Newton Aycliffe Town Centre.
Lib Dem Candidate Greg Stone said, "We will be highlighting the staggering level of Labour neglect in the Constituency. We will be visiting homes in Wheatley Hill in the morning. Speaking to residents who are still reeling from a recent Audit Commission Report that has seen the area lose out on up to £116.8 million to improve tenant's homes. Their rating means the District of Easington cannot yet access supported borrowing of an initial £26.2 million to improve tenants' homes which could have increased to a total of £116.8 million. The Labour-run Council are responsible for Wheatley Hill missing out on this opportunity and residents are rightly angry." They will be joined by the former North East housing spokesperson Baroness Diana Maddock.
They will then be touring Newton Aycliffe Shopping Centre, visiting the Health Centre and Library as well as talking to shopkeepers. Greg said, "I have said all along that this area is suffering from Labour neglect. A perfect example is this shopping centre. People want to see a change in our Town and it is becoming increasingly clear that more and more people are turning to the Liberal Democrats for a positive change."
Simon Hughes MP said, "I have known Greg for a long time and he is an experienced campaigner with a track record of achieving for the community. I am delighted to join him in Sedgefield and all the signs are that this will be an extremely hard fought campaign between Greg and Labour."
