Cllr Steve Jones has been working hard with local community groups in his North Road ward to secure funding for improvements to North Park. Steve is delighted that £5000 from the National Lottery will be made available to help develop a Community Garden in the park.
Joint action by The North Road Community Partnership, The Friends of North Park, local schools and churches, with the assistance of local Liberal Democrat Councillors, has produced this excellent result.
The garden will be a place for relaxation. Its theme will be the railway heritage of North Road and it will provide educational as well as recreational opportunities for local children. Part of it will be a Sensory Garden for the visually impaired and there will also be raised beds so that disabled and elderly people can work more easily in the garden.
Steve Jones said, "This is an excellent result for the people of North Road ward. I hope the garden will attract many more insects, birds and other wildlife to the Park. There are a lot of terraced houses around here without proper gardens. I hope that local residents will take this on as their own garden, shared with the community."
